The Carer Gateway Staff Development Officer is a permanent full time position which is subject to ongoing funding. The position attracts a salary package of $82,000 p.a, plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (plus 17.5% leave loading) and two wellness days per annum. Package dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental illness, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

The Role

The position is responsible for providing role specific training and assessment for the Carer Gateway team. The role will also provide carer focused services in consultation with carers to identify their goals and ensure an appropriate support plan is prepared, implemented, and evaluated, when required.

This position will also be responsible for the development, coordination and administration of training materials and program procedures.

As a Staff Development Officer you will prepare and deliver training to the new and existing staff in line with Carers Gateway procedures and processes.

You will assess competencies of the Carer Gateway Support Officers and regularly monitor and evaluate the delivery of the training ensuring appropriate support and service is provided.

You will work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate training and development strategies to support the Carer Gateway program.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or relevant vocational qualification at Diploma level
  • Demonstrated experience in time management and service improvement
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a training role within the community services sector.
  • Experience in conducting staff assessments and identifying skills gaps
  • Ability to adapt teaching style to various learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to build and develop strong working relationships
  • Proven ability to work in a person-centred manner.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in a community service or health-based context.
  • High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
  • Possession of smart mobile phone for systems access.
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Community Services sector
