What does the role involve?

Reporting to the Finance Associate Director, you'll take charge of month-end closures, manage reporting, and drive budget and forecasting efforts. We value a passion for ongoing improvement, a willingness to learn, and a can-do attitude, as you'll be working both autonomously and within a close-knit team.

Key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Financial Management: Oversee the month-end closure, monthly management reporting, and lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, addressing all related queries.
  • Internal Assurance & Compliance: Drive internal assurance processes to ensure compliance and sound decision-making on expenditure, including program costs in overseas offices.
  • Reconciliation & Analysis: Perform monthly reconciliations of income, expenditure, and balance sheet accounts, and prepare variance analysis in accordance with accounting and auditing standards.
  • Training & Support: Provide expert advice to managers and staff on financial issues, design and deliver financial training programs, and support the finance team during annual audits and end-of-year activities.

This role is based in our Mascot office and will work a hybrid model, including Tuesday and Wednesday in the office per week.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to Caritas Australia’s mission to end poverty and injustice by promoting human dignity for all, as well as a dedication to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching that guide our global efforts. They will have a mix of the following qualifications, skills and experience:    

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in advanced Excel and finance systems, with experience in internal assurance and reviews.
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting and Audit standards, with demonstrated expertise in process review, internal audit, and compliance.
  • Approachable, detail-oriented, proactive problem-solver with the ability to learn quickly and work independently while effectively communicating and asking questions.
