Our mission is to empower families in the Maitland and Lower Hunter regions by helping them find safe, stable housing and live free from abuse. We work closely with local communities to address domestic violence and homelessness, providing holistic support that fosters capacity-building, inclusion, and resilience.

Our passionate team collaborates to offer a variety of programs focussing on equipping clients with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to maintain healthy relationships and achieve greater independence.

About the Role:

Carrie's Place is currently seeking a Mental Health Social Worker for a newly created position. This role will be an essential part of both internal and external multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with Case Managers, First Nations staff, victim services counsellors, mental health professionals, school counsellors, medical practitioners, and NDIS providers.

The Mental Health Social Worker will report to the Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) Program Manager and work closely with the SHLV, Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS), and Women's Domestic Violence Court Assistance Scheme (WDVCAS) teams. This position requires a high level of responsibility to deliver wellbeing services to clients, leveraging the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to provide comprehensive support.

Key responsibilities include, but is not limited to:

  • Working on post-crisis intervention to support client's recovery and healing.
  • Collaborating to establish wellbeing case plans for clients and children in their care.
  • Conducting individual client and family appointments and providing trauma-informed recovery-focused mental health services.
  • Collaborating with Case Managers to provide input into group programs to bring recovery-focused mental health awareness.
  • Facilitating children and parent / child group programs based on needs of the young person with active wellbeing plans which may include art, play, mindfulness and CBT to achieve client goals.
  • Assisting clients with solidifying connections with medical practitioners to provide Medicare referrals to specialists.
  • Assisting clients to explore impacts of trauma on children in their care and collaboratively plan for the children’s wellbeing and recovery.
  • Encouraging clients to plan for their children’s wellbeing, providing opportunity to re-confirm their role as a decision-maker in their children’s life.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work with Mental Health accreditation through the AASW.
  • A commitment to a feminist philosophy, and the principles of social justice and human rights.
  • Demonstrated high level of emotional maturity, including respectful and ethical behaviour.
  • Experience working with women and children impacted by complex trauma and a sound understanding of the complexities and support needs of the homelessness and domestic violence client cohort.
  • Ability to deliver services in accordance with program guidelines, and best practice skills as a Case Manager.
  • Ability to work with the local community to promote awareness of homelessness and domestic violence services.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and post-crisis, providing appropriate, trauma-informed counselling and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and develop working relationships with the local community and stakeholder.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, and computer literacy.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
  • National Police Check, or willing to obtain.
  • NSW Working with Children clearance, or willing to obtain.

Carrie's Place Benefits:

  • Annual salary $89,689 - $93,748 (FTE) in accordance with the SCHADS Award, level 5, dependent upon experience
