About the role

We are seeking a qualified Counsellor to provide high quality, all of family domestic violence therapy to support safety, accountability, recovery and healing from the impacts of domestic & family violence (DFV) with clientele living with cognitive impairment. The main focus of this role is on behaviour change responses for men who use violence and coercive control and those affected by these behaviours through a family dynamic perspective. The successful incumbent may also be involved in group work facilitation.

This is fixed term contract until 30th March 2026, working part-time hours, 3 days per week or 2 days per week will also be considered.

The successful incumbent will work out of our Tuggerah Family Centre supporting our Men & Families Team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direct counselling services (in person or telehealth) including suitability screening, and actioning appropriate referrals to meet our contract requirements and guidelines.
  • Provide timely, trauma and DFV informed individual and family counselling services depending on client needs. This includes contracting and exit planning to ensure safety and accountability.
  • Provision of various group work facilitation to men, women, children and adolescents as required, contributing to the development and continuous improvement of programs.
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained for self and all hazards and incidents are reported within appropriate timeframes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Welfare, Psychology, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Relevant registrations (or working towards) with peak bodies such as ACA, PACFA, AASW. or APHRA.
  • Proven and demonstrated knowledge and experience of working with families experiencing DV within the dynamics of family systems to transition from trauma to safety and recovery.
  • Some experience in responding to men who have used violence
  • Some experience or knowledge in responding to clients living with cognitive impairment and their families
  • Ability to demonstrate networking and advocacy skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage crisis or safety situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to deliver therapy within a solution focused, time frame model.
  • A valid NSW Driver's Licence and insured vehicle.
