About the role:

Our Homelessness program is a fast-paced environment that requires a skilled Caseworker that can support individuals and families experiencing homelessness that are in crisis. Case Workers need to have high levels compassion, empathy, patience, and tolerance. A humanistic approach and a fun personality are a must, but you also need to be able to think fast, deliver practical and emotional support and be solution focused.

The main objective of the role is to provide case management intervention for clients experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. The successful incumbent will join our successful ‘Young Parents Program’ which supports individuals, parents or guardians under up to the age of 24 who are in critical need for long term housing accommodation.

The role will include addressing homelessness concerns through building client capabilities, increasing safety and promoting change.

It is a very hands-on job, that at times can be challenging but massively rewarding. We want clients to feel safe and supportive, but to also have a positive experience with our service and organisation.

This is a permanent part-time position (3 days p/week) based in Tuggerah and we support flexible working arrangements that meets the needs of the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sound knowledge of casework and case management principles.
  • Experience in the homelessness sector, particularly with those who are currently sleeping rough and may present with complex barriers to obtaining and maintaining accommodation.
  • Good working knowledge of accessing homelessness supports and accommodation.
  • Assist and advocate for clients in meeting practical needs such as budgeting, job attainment, access to Centrelink, Medicare, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate referrals are made to address risk factors such as mental health, drugs and alcohol and other contributors which impact sustainability of housing needs, and work alongside those services to provide appropriate intervention.
  • Participate in regular mandatory reporting on client progress.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in providing case management support to vulnerable persons in crisis.
  • Sound understanding of contributing factors which cause homelessness.
  • Response based case management to respond and work with complex trauma, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs and other mitigating factors.
  • Ability to demonstrate networking and advocacy skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide strong and respectful advocacy in situations of high pressure and competing agendas.
  • Ability to manage a crisis or safety situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • A NSW Driver's Licence and insured vehicle.
