About the role

We are seeking a skilled & experienced Men & Family Counsellor(Men's Behaviour Change Practitioner) to provide high quality, trauma informed child and family domestic violence therapy to support recovery and healing from the impacts of domestic and family violence. Specialist areas and positions include behaviour change responses to men who use violence and coercive control. Facilitating group work is also a component of this role.

This is a part-time (3 days per week), fixed-term contract role available until 30th June 2026, based in Waitara and we offer flexible working arrangements. The successful incumbent will work as part of a therapeutic team in the delivery of group work programs to men, women, children and adolescents as required, taking an active role in contributing to the development and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct counselling services including intake, suitability screening, and appropriate referrals to meet our contract requirements.
  • Provide time framed, trauma and DFV informed individual and family, counselling services of sessions depending on client needs.
  • Provision of various group work facilitation with an ability to plan, write, deliver and evaluate group programs.
  • Actively engage with stakeholders, developing and growing collaborative partnerships to build capacity towards safety of women and children and accountability of men who have used violence and coercive control.
  • Delivering outreach services within the local community, provide groups sessions to target areas, provide services within the Public and Catholic Schools and Parishes.
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained for self and others and all hazards and incidents are reported within appropriate timeframes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Welfare, Psychology, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a Counselling role working with Men & Families.
  • Extensive experience in attachment theory, play therapy for child developmental trauma, family systems theory, men’s behaviour change, domestic violence training and parenting support and education following child trauma.
  • Ability to demonstrate networking and advocacy skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage crisis or safety situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • A valid NSW Driver's Licence and insured vehicle.
