What you’ll be doing…

Reporting to the Executive Director – Schools, the Director – School Counselling Services will provide oversight of services delivered in and across Schools including Counselling and Critical Incident Support. In this role you will be responsible for leadership of the Southern / Southwestern Sydney Region; consisting of 4 hubs that provide support to some 70 primary and secondary schools through an experienced team of 4 managers (direct reports) and c. 60 counsellors (indirect reports). Your team, and the Leaders within schools (Principals and their delegates) are your key stakeholders, with your role focussed on leading the implementation of the Divisions strategy and business plans ultimately contributing to our vision of empowering school communities to champion their own wellbeing.

The main objectives of the role include:

  • Exceeding Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators expectations of Funders
  • Ensuring high clinical/practitioner/workforce quality and effectiveness (outcomes) and utilisation (output)
  • Developing strong partner relationships to support service stability and scope
  • Ensuring seamless, responsive clients centred service experience

What you will need...

As an experienced Manager or Leader having worked with schools, the Director - School Counselling Services will provide high-level strategic advice to the Executive Director – Schools and other internal stakeholders on school wellbeing services needs and strategy implementation. Through critical appraisal and a commitment to continuous improvement, this pivotal role ensures that quality assurance and feedback activities are linked to supervision, clinical training, mentoring, and coaching. The Director leads improvement initiatives and the development of service models in partnership with external stakeholders, ensuring the highest standards in CatholicCare’s practice. You will have exceptional relationship management and communication skills, often providing Leadership in complex psychosocial and emotional settings.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Current (or recently demonstrable) leadership or management responsibilities delivering clinical services into a school or education setting
  • Relevant qualifications to enable registration with APS, AASW, ACA and / or PACFA
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection, domestic and family violence and other relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated capacity to implement a person-centred approach to service delivery
  • Sufficient IT expertise to understand and utilise technology to oversee large, decentralised operations, create innovative services and optimise engagement with key stakeholders
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with professionals at all levels
