The Cultivating Community Public Housing Community Gardens Team supports 750+ gardeners within 21 public housing community gardens in inner Melbourne. The Community Gardens Officer (CGO) works as part of the Community Gardens team along with other team members involved in maintenance, improvement work and bespoke projects. They engage with the organisation's leadership team, volunteers, and our partnerships.
Cultivating Community operates within service agreement guidelines provided originally by DFFH and now Homes Victoria. The team attend community gardens to provide horticultural support to gardeners. The team also maintain garden cleanliness and functionality and contribute to the development of resources, events and projects to further the aims of the Community Gardens service and Cultivating Community three-year strategy 2022-2025.
The role comes with scope for exercising initiative in the application of established work procedures with general direction from team leader and support workers. You will have the ability to perform operational work that will include logistical planning, including visiting garden locations, delivering key activities, supporting gardeners with horticultural task and maintaining the amenity.
You will be required to manage your own time and key performance indicators and may at times need to deal with complex challenging behaviours.
A good knowledge of human resource experiences and team situations is important as well as the ability to support others with on-the-job training. You must be proficient in the operation of computers and relevant software in line with our systems and operational needs.
