Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit community legal centre providing state-wide specialist legal services in credit and debt and consumer law.
- We provide free, confidential legal advice to consumers in Western Australia through our Telephone Advice Line.
- We provide ongoing legal representation to people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage through internal and external dispute resolution processes.
- Our community legal education programs empower West Australians to understand their consumer and financial rights and avoid financial pitfalls.
- We help other community service providers, including financial counsellors and community support workers, to understand and support their clients.
- We contribute to law reform, policy campaigns, and consultations, providing a voice for West Australian consumers and advocating for fair financial systems and consumer laws.

Compensation & Benefits:
- SCHADS level 5 or 6 (dependent on experience).

- Based in our Perth office, with flexible work from home arrangements.
- Full-time position, with ability to facilitate part-time arrangement between successful applicants.
Main duties of this role will include but are not limited to:
- Legal Advice & Casework
- Provide high quality, trauma-informed advice to consumers and other community organisations contacting the Telephone Advice Line.
- Provide supervision and direction to volunteers.
- Maintain a reasonable casework load of ongoing representation matters.
Community Education & Networking:
- Assist with community legal education by preparing information and presenting education sessions as required.
- Identify issues of concern to West Australian consumers and/or consumer group.
- Participate in relevant committees, issue-based groups, conferences and workshops as required.
Strategic Law Reform & Advocacy
- Provide legal analysis, opinion and comment on aspects of banking, finance and consumer related legislation and policy development.
- Consult with government departments, the banking and finance industry and consumer organisations as appropriate.
- Prepare submissions and position papers for government, industry and consumer organisations. Keep current with legislative changes and other industry developments.
What you will need to be successful:
- Admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, holding an unrestricted WA practising certificate.
- Sound knowledge of credit, debt and consumer law related issues, regulatory policy and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- A high level of legal drafting skills and ability to write in plain English.
- An understanding of, and willingness to work in, a community legal centre setting.
- Supervising and mentoring experience.
- Proven ability to manage multiple competing duties while maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- A commitment to social justice.
