About the team

The Corporate Communications Specialist role sits in the Marketing & Communications Unit within the Marketing & Fundraising division and is part of the award-winning PR & Communications team. The Marketing & Communications Unit is responsible for promoting, positioning and protecting Cancer Council’s brand and reputation across NSW, and supports the whole organisation in our mission to tackle cancer.

About the role:

The Corporate Communications Specialist is a newly created role, which will play an instrumental part in helping Cancer Council NSW meet its organisational objectives through strategic internal communications to inspire and empower our people, and impactful corporate communications to effectively engage key stakeholders. Our staff and volunteers are some of our most passionate advocates, supporters and brand champions – this role will help define the way we engage with them as we work together to deliver our strategy. Please note, four days a week would also be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Develop and continuously optimise a year-round internal communications strategy to inspire, empower and actively engage our people (staff & volunteers) as we work together to deliver our new 5-year organisational strategy.
  • Proactively build relationships and work with stakeholders around the organisation to identify opportunities to effectively communicate our work both internally and externally, working with the broader Marketing & Communications team to develop into multi-channel content.
  • Proactively work with the Chief of Staff and Strategy team to ensure alignment between internal communication strategy, 5-year organisational strategy and deliver engaging CEO communications.
  • Work with the content team on storytelling projects, identifying opportunities to improve how we communicate the impact of our life-saving work to the community
  • Develop, maintain and improve our corporate communications for high value stakeholders including impact reports and tied funding propositions in collaboration with the philanthropy team.
  • Work with the Manager, Philanthropy Unit, to develop and maintain the philanthropy value proposition and key resources to support philanthropic growth.
  • Work with the Manager, People Experience to ensure people-focused initiatives are recognised and promoted throughout appropriate channels to inspire and empower our people.
  • Develop, maintain and improve our internal communications platforms, including internal newsletters, intranet, newsletters and our all-staff meeting 'Keeping In Touch’ (KIT) through developing annual content plans and tailored for each channel.

About you

Essential:

  • 3-4 years in an in-house communications role.
  • Experience in leading on and delivering internal communication strategies and content that help build a connected and engaged internal community and support a positive workplace culture.
  • Demonstrated success in writing for a range of channels and audiences and translating complex/technical concepts and issues into accessible and simple language.
  • Strong stakeholder management, interpersonal and verbal communications skills with a proven ability to develop productive working relationships that deliver on strategic objectives.
  • Experience managing a diverse range of stakeholders, from high-level executives, peers and external agency or freelancer relationships.
  • Demonstrated passion for storytelling, amplifying messaging and driving change across an organisation on key priorities.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise as required.
  • Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative feedback and translate into tactical outputs.
  • Experience with a web content management system (CMS) and uploading content.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-functional team, sharing learnings and continuously optimising ways of working.

Desirable:

  • Experience in an in-house internal or corporate communications role.
  • Experience of working in a not-for-profit environment in a multi-functional communications team.
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing or similar.
