Grocery Cafe Supervisor

The Cafe Supervisor works closely with the Grocery Manager and all team members across the Grocery, Bakery, Cafe enterprise to ensure the delivery of a consistent and high level of customer service at all times. The manager oversees the day to day operations of the cafe, ensuring staff are trained and up to date with all current systems and safety procedures.
We’re a dynamic Grocery, Cafe and Bakery set in the heart of CERES Environment Park in the inner Northern suburbs of Melbourne. Trading 7 days a week, we support Victorian farmers & suppliers, utilising the purchasing policies Organic, Fairtrade and Local. We promote and encourage the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in all areas of trade, from procurement to sale. Within the Grocery is a vibrant Cafe that serves delicious Organic food and Coffee and a Bakery baking artisanal sourdough bread daily. All our profits help CERES teach kids and adults how to take good care of our planet.
In this permanent part-time position, you will juggle multiple important daily tasks including managing staff, customer service and quality control.
The Grocery Cafe Supervisor will work under the guidance of the Grocery Manager to ensure the smooth running of daily trade and maintain the ongoing financial viability of the enterprise.
Working closely with the Grocery Manager and all team members across the Grocery, Bakery, Cafe enterprise to ensure the delivery of a consistent and high level of customer service and customer experience. You will effectively oversee the day to day operations of the cafe, ensuring staff are trained and up to date with all current systems and safety procedures.
You are an experienced cafe worker and barista with proven experience working with customers, staff and management. You are confident and capable of visioning the ongoing improvement of the space by coordinating daily tasks in a harmonious and considerate manner. You are interested in quality food products, particularly in sustainable food systems and you are keen to make a difference.
This role requires:
Experience in the service and hospitality industry
Health & Safety training – including relevant certifications e.g. Food Handling
Barista experience
Small space and team management.
What’s desirable:
Strong interest in and commitment to local, seasonal and organic foods
Demonstrated experience in cooking in a commercial kitchen
Interest or background in the fresh produce industry, environmentalism, social justice an asset
