CFMEU Construction & General Division Victorian/Tasmanian Branch is currently seeking to employ a legally qualified industrial officer on a full time basis. The successful candidate will work in a team of dedicated legal/industrial officers committed to the values and principles of unionism, and advancing the cause of the CFMEU and its members.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor with current practicing certificate
- Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe and related programs.
Key responsibilities:
Responsible for management of own legal caseload within team of legal/industrial officers including:
- All aspects of case preparation, management and appearances in industrial tribunals (e.g. Victorian Building Industry Disputes Panel / Fair Work Commission) and courts, including briefing counsel and external law firms;
- Providing legal advice and assistance to CFMEU members, organisers and executive in Victoria/Tasmania regarding all manner of industrial and employment law matters, including workplace disputes, dismissals, wage claims, protected action ballots, industrial action, enterprise agreements and awards, right of entry etc;
- Dealing with regulatory authorities (e.g. Australian Building and Construction Commission, Worksafe, Fair Work Commission);
- Interacting and liaising with other unions;
- Researching and writing submissions on issues that affect the construction industry;
- Participating in negotiations of enterprise agreements for the construction industry;
- General legal practitioner duties.
