THE OPPORTUNITY AND YOUR ROLE 

CHF regularly recruits consumer representatives for government and other committees. Some opportunities need not only lived, but technical and professional experience, which require well matched and qualified consumer appointees.  

The purpose of the Independent Review Panel (the Panel) is to assess and recommend consumers for committee roles through a timely, fair, and transparent recruitment process.

The Panel will only be called upon to assess consumers for committees who possess some or all of the following: 

  • Public visibility  
  • Policy impact  
  • Consumer impact, and/or  
  • Strategic national health care influence 

Examples of committees of this kind include, but are not limited to, committees such as Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC), National Safety and Quality in Healthcare Standards Committee (NSQHSC) and others. 

Independent members are individuals who are not affiliated with CHF in any capacity (past or present). They should have relevant experience and expertise and maintain impartiality in the recruitment process.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Panel’s role includes:  

  • Reviewing consumer applications and nominations for committee roles 
  • Assessing consumer candidates against a set criteria
  • Keeping to an impartial and merit-based selection process 
  • Providing feedback and rationale on consumer recommendations when required   
  • Recommending suitable consumer candidates for committees 

Recommendations are advisory, to be made to the CHF CEO.   

COMMITMENT

The Panel will meet ad-hoc approximately three to four times per year, with four (4) weeks’ notice given before each meeting for preparation and attendance.

Members will be remunerated for their participation based on the standard Commonwealth Remuneration Tribunal rate.
