About the Chinese Australian Forum:

The Chinese Australian Forum (CAF) is a non-partisan body established in 1985 to provide the Chinese community with a voice in the Australian political process. It began with the aim of raising the political awareness of Chinese Australians, but this objective quickly evolved and expanded to include involvement in contemporary social and political issues affecting the democratic process in Australia.

CAF regards diligent participation as an essential part of the integration of Chinese Australians with mainstream Australian society. By providing a forum for education and debate, and through responding to topical issues, CAF provides the voice for Chinese Australians to air their views and be heard. It is the only Chinese Australian organisation in NSW whose main activity is to engage members and supporters in the political process of this country.

Job Description:

CAF has developed a curriculum with academic professors and experts to explore core areas of Australian civics education. It plans to deliver 13 one-hour Chinese language workshops/seminars in Victoria, WA, and Sydney over the course of 2024-2025. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager to administer this important project to aid the Chinese-Australian Community to further its understanding of the Australian Government structure and to facilitate the community’s participation in politics and society.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination:
    • Communicate on behalf of the CAF Management Committee with Victoria, WA and Sydney coordinators to ensure workshops are on track to meet CAF civics course completion needs.
    • Monitor logistics, including venue scheduling, and resource allocation.
    • Support Sydney coordinator with workshop facilitation, scheduling, and on-the-day running of workshops
  • Budget Monitoring:
    • Monitor expenses and financial performance, reporting regularly to CAF management committee.
  • Quality Check:
    • Gather and analyse feedback from participants, facilitators, and stakeholders.
    • Preparation of detailed progress reports, 3 for each state, per below details for CAF’s project customer (National Foundation for Australia China- Relations, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade):

Notes on the reports:

  • The written report(s) will be generated though focus groups and surveys conducted alongside the civics education workshops.
  • The report(s) will provide insights into Chinese community sentiment, particularly around access to and understanding of Australian civic institutions. It would contain non-binding recommendations for community programming for NFACR, and remain private and the property of the Commonwealth.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management, preferably within community services or educational programs.
  • Good track record of successfully managing projects across multiple locations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in budget management and financial reporting.
  • Good understanding of the needs of Chinese community.
  • the ability to speak and read Chinese is preferred, but not mandatory.
