Choice Mental Health is a psychosocial rehabilitation service and NDIS provider that supports children, young people and adults who are experiencing mental ill health. We are a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals that work collaboratively to empower people toward their recovery and personal goals. About the role

We require, emotionally intelligent, highly motivated professionals who have a heart to understand others through attentive listening and proactive compassionate service. The duties of our Peer Support and Mental Health Workers are undertaken in a client centred, strength based, fun and holistic manner that empowers the client to identify and move toward their goals. Tasks vary depending on the unique circumstance of each person being supported. They can include:

  • Providing practical and emotional support to people with mental illness to enable them to meet their personal life goals and objectives, outlined within their NDIS plan;
  • Assist them to develop and/or expand their social relationships and networks in the local community;
  • Implement and facilitate planned activities which promote independence;
  • Maintain the client files and database as per the procedures;
  • Exploring client strengths and developing practical skills through shared projects like gardening, crafts, fitness et al
  • Assisting clients to engage with education, employment or training;
  • Assisting clients to fill in paperwork and engage with various community services;
  • Providing client transport to assist with local community access and the tasks of daily living.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience and skills in working with people with mental illness or psychosocial disability;
  • Demonstrated confidence and resilience to respond appropriately in challenging situations;
  • Strong understanding of professional boundaries and the need to maintain boundaries;
  • Sound computer and administrative skills including file noting and record keeping;
  • Certificate IV/III level qualification in Community Services and or / mental health would be beneficial.

If this role is for you, you must also have:

  • A Current driver's licence and access to use of personal motor vehicle;
  • NDIS Worker Screening and Working With Children Check (or the ability to obtain one);
  • Current first aid certificate with CPR (HLTAID003) highly regarded;
  • Qualifications in Mental Health/Social Work/community Services or a willingness to undertake.
