ABOUT THE ROLE

At Circle Green, we are dedicated to breaking down barriers to justice by providing essential legal services to those in need. We are excited to offer a highly rewarding opportunity for a Principal Lawyer to lead our Workplace Law Stream at our Perth office.

As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of Circle Green. You will lead the workplace law stream, reporting directly to the Director of Services, and oversee a dynamic team of approximately 24 professionals, including senior lawyers, a key worker, and a project manager. In this role, you will guide and mentor the workplace team, ensuring the effective delivery of all services and projects.

Moreover, you will oversee the provision of expert advice on complex workplace legal issues, requiring a strong, up-to-date knowledge of workplace law.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Leadership: Lead and manage a high performing team, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Strategy: In line with the strategic plan, drive continuous improvement within the Workplace stream, including reducing barriers for vulnerable clients and ensuring the delivery of effective, timely, and innovative legal advice and education.
  • Legal Advice and Risk Management: Supervise the provision of expert legal advice and identify and mitigate legal risks and issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Engage with relevant stakeholders, including government and community organisations, to inform service delivery, community legal education, and policy and law reform initiatives.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Engage in legal advocacy, policy review, and reform efforts to promote the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable populations.
  • Contract Management: Manage allocation of resources and report across multiple funding streams, ensuring compliance with funding contracts.

ABOUT YOU

As our Principal Lawyer, you will bring a wealth of knowledge in workplace law and exceptional people management skills. Your passion for social justice and human rights, combined with your strategic leadership experience, will be vital in this role.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Background: Minimum undergraduate degree in Law.
  • Professional Experience: At least 5+ years of post-admission experience.
  • Certification: Unrestricted practising certificate (or the ability to obtain one before commencing).
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading a legal team and providing high-level advice on complex workplace law matters.
  • Strategic Direction: Ability to guide the strategic direction of a legal office and make informed business decisions.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding and sensitivity towards individuals from diverse socio-economic and CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds.
