City of Ballarat Libraries currently has an exciting part-time opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and customer focused children's and youth librarian.

You will be experienced and passionate in the development, delivery and evaluation of high quality, engaging programs and activities, that support the early literacy needs of children, young people and their caregivers.  You will be experienced and confident in storytelling, be able to work effectively in teams and have a sound understanding of early literacy development. Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds would be favourable, along with experience at working in partnership with allied organisations to deliver programs for young people.

This position takes a lead role in advocating for and supporting a love of reading and learning outcomes for children and families across our diverse Ballarat community. It also works as part of the library team to deliver customer service and general library operations.

This position includes working on a weekend roster, with additional overtime shifts available.

key selection criteria

  • Completion of a degree course or through lesser formal qualifications with relevant work skills and eligible for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote the corporate values.
  • Considerable experience in a range of IT applications and digital technologies including handheld devices. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a range of people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet organisational strategic outcomes.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of early years literacy, reading and digital literacy programs, services and activities for children and young people.
