The City of Yarra has a proud history of environmental action and leadership. Yarra was one of the first local governments in the world to declare a climate emergency, and has recently adopted our second Climate Emergency Plan. Yarra Council has a significant role to play set clear internal and community wide leadership and direction to ensure urgent and broad action in response to the climate change.

To support our organisation to take climate action, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to:

• Lead the embedding of climate emergency action across Council, including staff engagement and support all Council teams to deliver on Council's commitment that 'every job is a climate job'.
• Lead organisational activities and communications to enhance staff visibility and awareness of climate emergency action and pathways relevant to all staff at Yarra.
• Support the measurement, reporting, and communications of Council's climate emergency action.
• Lead initiatives and oversight to ensure Council is operating as a best practice zero-carbon business, including organisational annual carbon neutral certification and the management and reporting of organisational and municipal-wide emissions reduction and and progress.

The climate emergency is fast-paced, growing global movement with local councils at the forefront of action. We are seeking a passionate candidate who has demonstrated understanding and experience in planning and leading climate change action within a complex organisation with many stakeholders.

The role sits in the Sustainability Unit within the City Sustainability and Strategy division.
