We’ve opened applications for a Communications and Campaigns Manager to strengthen our organisations external communications and build momentum for climate action in agriculture. In a core functional role, the Communications and Campaigns Manager is a multi-skilled organisational leader who creates impactful campaigns, meaningful stakeholder engagement, and effective external communications.
position purpose
The Communications and Campaigns Manager plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Farmers for Climate Action (FCA) by developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies and impactful campaigns. This position is responsible for enhancing FCA's visibility, engaging diverse stakeholders, and promoting our vision for climate action in agriculture. The Communications and Campaigns Manager will work closely with internal teams and external partners to effectively convey our messages, increase awareness, and drive action towards sustainable agricultural practices.
The Communications and Campaigns Manager proactively identifies and responds to campaign, grant and fundraising opportunities. This role will also build engagement through external communications and events. FCA operates as a small and agile team within a fast-moving policy arena. The Communications and Campaigns Manager will demonstrate a willingness to work across portfolios and manage multiple priorities with high attention to detail.
role accountabilities
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS
- Develop and execute integrated communication strategies that align with FCA’s goals and objectives.
- Craft compelling narratives and messaging that resonate with target audiences, including farmers, environmental advocates, corporate partners, and the general public.
- Oversee the creation of high-quality written and multimedia content for various platforms, including press releases, articles, newsletters, website and social media.
MOVEMENT BUILDING
- Increase our farmer member numbers.
- Build relationships with our key farmer members whilst mobilising and encouraging them to run local campaigns.
- Encourage donors to have ongoing relationships with FCA.
- Build our social media presence, reach measurable goals that increase our followers across platforms
- Spread awareness of the positive impact FCA projects are having on Australian agriculture.
- Spread awareness and increase uptake of the climate smart agriculture toolkit Campaign Management.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of campaigns focused on climate action and sustainable agriculture.
- Plan and execute FCA events and public engagement activities, fostering connections with FCA members and supporters to build awareness and support for FCA.
- Design innovative campaign materials and collateral, utilising digital and traditional media to maximise outreach and engagement.
- Monitor and analyse campaign performance metrics, adjusting strategies to enhance effectiveness and impact.
- Lead and coordinate FCA projects, events, and reports related to climate action and agriculture, engaging stakeholders within the agricultural sector, environmental movement, and corporate and philanthropic partners.
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and media representatives to amplify FCA’s message and initiatives.
- Organise and facilitate events, workshops, and promotional activities to engage stakeholders and foster community involvement.
- Collaborate with the Governance and Operations Officer to ensure alignment between communications efforts and organisational governance.
DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
- Oversee FCA’s digital presence, including website management, social media strategy, and online engagement initiatives.
- Utilise social media platforms and digital marketing tools to expand FCA’s audience reach and promote campaigns effectively.
- Stay informed on emerging digital communication trends and practices to continually enhance FCA’s online impact.
GRANTS AND PARTNERSHIPS
- Collaborate with the Strategic Relationships and Impact Adviser to research, write, and submit grant proposals and partnership submissions that support FCA’s mission and operational needs.
- Maintain records and provide regular updates on grant outcomes and partnerships
ABOUT YOU
COMMUNICATIONS EXPERTISE
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for translating complex concepts into clear, persuasive messaging.
- Experience in creating content across various social media streams.
CAMPAIGN STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT
- Proven experience in designing and implementing successful campaigns, including target audience identification, messaging, and performance evaluation.
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING SKILLS
- Agile, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with a diverse range of stakeholders, including farmers, government officials, NGOs, and community members.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Solid organisational abilities, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
ALIGNMENT WITH FCA VALUES
- A strong commitment to climate action and sustainable agriculture, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities within rural and regional Australian contexts.
- Connection to climate action and/or rural and regional Australia, and you understand the experience and priorities of farmers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- You bring specific and demonstrable knowledge and experience from a relevant field of work that connects to our vision and purpose. This might be agriculture or agri-politics, environmental movement work, energy, politics, or a combination.
- We are looking for a minimum of 5 years of industry experience or 3 years working in a similar role.
- Tertiary qualifications in communications (public relations, journalism, digital media), marketing, or commerce is an advantage
- Proficiency in programs including Hootsuite, Wordpress, Canva, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, NationBuilder and Xero is an advantage.
