Senior Finance Officer

Coalition of Peaks

Are you a skilled finance professional with a passion for delivering high-quality financial support in a small dynamic team?

The Coalition of Peaks Policy and Secretariat Team is looking for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join our team and we want to hear from you.

About the organisation

The Coalition of Peaks is a representative body of more than 80 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled peak organisations and members who have come together to Close the Gap, in partnership with Australian governments.

We share a belief that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should have a meaningful say on policies and programs related to Closing the Gap through formal partnerships with Australian governments at all levels.

The CoP Secretariat Team supports the work of the Coalition of Peaks, providing high level and comprehensive policy and strategic advice to Peaks Members, to support the implementation and monitoring of actions in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

About the Role

The Senior Finance Officer plays a key role in managing the Secretariat’s financial activities including managing significant procurement activities and contracts, managing travel arrangements and acquittals, and supporting the team to develop and comply with internal financial policies and procedures. You will proactively oversee budgets by tracking, reporting on, managing and advising on budget overspends or underspends.

Your responsibilities will include reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and supporting the Secretariat Team to align their business priorities with financial goals. From procurement to financial communications, you will be instrumental in delivering accurate, timely, and actionable financial insights.

The position is Canberra based and will be offered as a full-time, ongoing role.

About You

You are an experienced finance professional with a strong track record in managing budgets, procurement, financial reporting, and compliance. You have proven expertise in financial systems and processes, and your ability to work both autonomously and as a team player ensures you can hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment.

You will have strong attention to detail and well-honed analytical skills. You work collaboratively, supporting team priorities, and contributing to a positive and cohesive work environment.

You will bring proven experience in stakeholder engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, organisations and communities.
