The Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Group lead the provision of services to support the welfare and wellbeing of students. The Group works proactively to remove barriers and provide support to students who may be at risk of not being able to access or successfully complete their tertiary study.

The Role

As a member of the Safer Community team, you will provide a supportive intake service in response to student disclosures of experiences of sexual harm, threatening or inappropriate behaviour. The role also involves engagement with students who may be exhibiting behaviours of concern and addressing these through the appropriate avenues within the University and externally. You will provide brief, solution focussed support will be provided to students who access the Safer Community Service.

Your Responsibilities

  • Respond to current or former students disclosure of an incident of sexual harm, inappropriate, threatening or concerning behaviour about the safety of minors
  • Provide a supportive intake service
  • Provide advice on options and assistance to navigate the university's structure and processes to make a report
  • Assess the suitability of RMITs restorative engagement framework in relation to a historic disclosure and guide and support the complainant through the process
  • Maintain confidential case records and prepare case reports as required

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in case work, with an understanding of prevailing issues that relate to sexual harm
  • Established expertise in the maintenance of comprehensive case records, and knowledge of privacy legislation
  • Highly developed writing and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative, solve complex problems and make recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to communicate effectively to a broad range of individuals and groups
  • Personal resilience, well developed self care skills, and the capacity to maintain appropriate boundaries
