The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University's strategies related to RMIT's academic programs and the RMIT student experience. The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources. The Education Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation.

The Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Group lead the provision of services to support the welfare and wellbeing of students. The Group works proactively to remove barriers and provide support to students who may be at risk of not being able to access or successfully complete their tertiary study. In addition the Group responds to requests for assistance and support from students who have welfare and wellbeing concerns and from staff who may refer them.

The Role and Your Responsibilities

The I Belong Equity Program Officer will work in a collaborative manner across cross-functional teams to support the delivery of I Belong programs. 'I Belong' is RMIT's dynamic approach to inspiring and building tertiary engagement for secondary students. Our on campus, applied learning programs give selected School Networks Access Program (SNAP) school students the opportunity to explore a university environment and discover what is possible through tertiary study. The role will involve developing, coordinating and implementing the successful delivery of discipline-specific programs for students from SNAP Schools, as well as workshops on aspiration building, pathway exploration and transition.

Skills & Experience Required

You will have a demonstrated understanding of community diversity with the proven capacity to draw upon related skills and expertise to deliver equity programs that are targeted and responsive. Important to this role will be your ability to develop relationships and resources that strengthen the delivery of aspiration-raising programs for secondary school students, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to provide opportunities for young people to explore and experience tertiary environments and taster programs. You will provide operational support for student and parent and secondary school engagement activities run by the Equity and Diversity Unit; assist with the planning and implementation of events; support the employment of students as staff within the I Belong program and SNAP school partnership. Key to your success will also be your capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams in a large organisation, including strong problem-solving skills to achieve identified outcomes.

Note: This role will require satisfactory confirmation of a Working with Children Check. A current driver's licence is essential.
