As per the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Social/Interactional Model of Disability, we also acknowledge that the interaction between the individual's impairments and various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.

With skilled, committed and reliable support to navigate these barriers, more inclusion can be experienced.

The Role:

We use a rights-based model of support.

Our goal is that participant's will experience increased quality, more integrity and better reliability when being supported by us. We use a variety of evidence-informed tools to deliver on this.

You will be trained in:

  • Disability rights awareness and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
  • The Social and Rights-Based Model of Disability
  • Person-centred-ness and Active support
  • Trauma informed practice
  • Supported decision-making
  • Building and strengthening community connections and collaboration

CO Group provides:

  • Assistance with daily living - We use a person-centred active support model. This means that our team see potential in every moment to support participants to experience meaningful engagement and maximise choice and control. Assistance can be both a little or a lot but it is always as often as preferred.
  • Community access - Support to access the community can help to overcome barriers that may exist that prevent inclusion. Support to access the community, participate in activities, build connections and socialise boosts well-being and can open the door to new opportunities. We also believe that it creates a richer, more inclusive community for all.
  • Modified vehicle transport - We have a wheelchair accessible, modified vehicle in our fleet. We made this addition so that our participants don't have to rely on modified taxis to access the community. The modified van enables us to support participants to access the community flexibly and reliably.
  • Capacity building - increased social and community participation - We develop our team members to be experts at finding resources in the community. Using these skills, we can support participants to develop and strengthen community connections. We're big on supported decision-making and believe that to be able to make more choices that it's important to experience all the options available. This is why we are proactive at increasing social and community participation.

About you:

We embrace diversity within our team as the support needs of people with disability is also diverse. Each team member brings their own diverse experience, unique skills and knowledge to the table enabling us to meet a wide range of needs.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally, you will have a minimum of a Certificate III in Disability or other relevant qualification, or are working towards obtaining qualifications within 12 months.
  • Experience in the delivery of disability support is viewed favourably but not essential.
  • We also value lived experience or lived expertise on par with learned expertise. We can provide a pathway to compliment your lived experience with a qualification.

Other certifications:

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (essential)
  • Current first aid/CPR certificate (essential)
  • Current Driver's license (essential)

Remuneration:

SCHADS Social and community services award pay point 1.1 to 2.3 depending on qualifications and experience.

The position is a Casual role, 10-20 hours per week.
