ColourFull Abilities acknowledges the societal gap in caring for individuals within the Disability and LGBTQIA+ communities. We look at providing support to those who are engaged with the NDIS in a culturally safe and affirming manner. Our aim is not only to provide individual supports, but to raise wider societal awareness and build a culture of safe and affirming practices within mainstream disability services within South Australia, and currently our focus is on Kaurna Land.

About the role

The Support Worker works alongside participants to provide a range of diverse person-centred emotional and physical supports, while assisting participants to fulfil their NDIS plan goals.

Tasks may include:

  • In-home personal care
  • Daily living assistance with domestic tasks (i.e. meal preparation, house cleaning, laundry)
  • Provide support in line with individualised Care Plans
  • Assisting participants to complete tasks in the community
  • Supporting participants in leisure activities
  • Supporting participants to complete applications/forms

About you

Essential:

We are looking for Support Workers who have an open heart, are highly organised and detail oriented. The prospective workers will have well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with participants and their families, professionals and organisations.

The prospective workers will have a genuine desire to provide care and support to vulnerable people as well as an ability to work in a changing work environment and to work both independently and as part of a team. It is important that the prospective worker has an awareness of the barriers that exist LGBTQIA+ people with disabilities.

Additionally to this, the prospective worker will have the following:

  • Covid-19 vaccination, compliant with Government Health Directives
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check OR DHS Working with Disability Check
  • DHS Working With Children Check
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Mental Health First Aid certification
  • Strong English language skills
  • Full Driver’s Licence and a reliable roadworthy vehicle.

Desirable

  • In-depth understanding of LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Lived experience of Disability and/or a member of LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Current Flu vaccination
  • Safe Environments for Children and Young People - "Through their eyes" Training
  • An understanding/fluency of AusLan
  • NDIS Quality & Safety Commission training: see here
  • Fluency or ability to converse in a language other than English
  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability or other relevant qualification, or working towards obtaining a qualification within 12 months
