How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne

The Manager Family and Children Services is responsible for the provision of functions and services that focus on improved health and wellbeing outcomes for the community by leading and managing the team to deliver quality, effective, responsible and efficient customer focused services.

The position will lead strategic direction, develop policy, manage the operational performance of the team and allocate resources for effective service delivery in liaison with the Director Community Wellbeing.

  • Leading, guiding and managing the team to foster a performance based culture and drive accountability and excellence in outcomes through coaching, mentoring and empowering team members and direct reports to develop and perform at a high level, and as an effective team.
  • Efficiently and effectively manage the teams budget
  • Respecting the values of the community and appreciating the diverse skills, values and backgrounds of employees.

In addition, the Manager Family and Children’s Services will be accountable for:

  • The operational performance of the team and the delegation and resource allocation for effective service delivery.
  • Demonstrating high standards in quality of care, programs offered and service measures.
  • Monitoring and improving the safety performance of their work area by investigating incidents, identifying hazards, initiating actions and participating in the mitigation and resolution of safety issues.
  • Participating in the Local Health and Safety Committee to ensure optimal safety performance.
  • Efficiently and effectively managing the team budget and optimise financial resources for maximum return on investment.
  • Fulfilling corporate planning, budgetary and risk management responsibilities and ensure services and products represent best value.
  • Developing a clear understanding of service costs, benchmarking, demonstrating service quality and working within business planning processes of Council.
  • Ensuring compliance of service operations within all statutory requirements, agreements and standards, and Council policy, in consultation with the Family Services team coordinators.
