About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Generalist Solicitor to join our Berri office, part of a four-person multi-disciplinary team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a varied legal workload and community interaction. You will collaborate regularly with colleagues from our other offices in Christie’s Beach and Mount Gambier, with management team visits and annual team planning days.

The CJSSA team comprises of 7 solicitors, 2 mental health workers, a family advocate, and 9 admin / community engagement / paralegals. The head office is based at Christie’s Beach with two regional offices at Mount Gambier and Berri, servicing clients across our catchment area in SA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice, casework representation, and client consultations.
• Represent clients in Federal Circuit & Family Court, Magistrates, and relevant State Courts and Tribunals.
• Prepare and manage legal documents, correspondence, and court documents.
• Engage in community legal education and outreach services.
• Work collaboratively with mental health workers and provide appropriate referrals.
• Maintain accurate client records and statistical data.
• Communicate effectively with clients, particularly those with special needs or from diverse backgrounds.

• Travel to outreach locations to provide services to clients (work vehicle provided)

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

• Minimum 2 years post-admission experience with an unrestricted practicing certificate (Cat C).
• Admitted or eligible to be admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
• Knowledge and experience in Family Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law, and related legal developments.
• Understanding of Family and Domestic Violence issues, Family Law Mediation, Conflict Management, and Collaborative Law.
• Commitment to social justice principles and CJSSA’s vision and values.
• Strong communication skills for conveying complex legal information clearly.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage client consultations at short notice.
