About Concern Australia

Concern Australia works in partnership with young people and their families to create positive opportunities and hopeful futures. Our programs provide education, employment, housing, youth justice and homelessness services. We focus on innovative and empowering pathways which build on young people’s talents and resilience and support them to reach their goals.

The fiXit Social Enterprise is an automotive business which also provides opportunities for young people to gain work experience and skills through short term employment. fiXit receives 100-200 donated cars from the community each year, which fiXit repurposes for profit. We also provide trustworthy servicing and repairs.

About the role

This role coordinates the day-to-day operations of fiXit, enabling our business to provide a safe and trustworthy service to our community.

Accredited by Social Traders, fiXit social enterprise provides a service to the local community through the provision of service and repair of vehicles and the collection of donated vehicles for restoration and sale.

You will also be working in collaboration with the Hand Brake Turn program, a pre-vocational 5-week automotive course. On an ad hoc basis, you will provide practical, hands-on automotive training experience to young people between 15-25 years old to transition into education and employment pathways.

This position is classified in accordance with the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020, Modern award MA000010.

What you will need to succeed

We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of young people.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Business and commercial knowledge in developing, marketing, growing and managing a small mechanics business and workshop
  • Working knowledge of and commitment to quality automotive service standards and certifications
  • A love for cars and mentoring young people
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, including and ability to facilitate group discussions and activities, especially with young people
  • Excellent customer service
  • Intermediate computer skills

Travel between workshops (Sunshine West and Dandenong) will occasionally be part of your day but will be accounted for within your working hours.
