About the role

The position provides psychosocial supports aimed at restoring socio-economic and cultural functioning to clients referred to Congress’ Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) service. Many of these clients may also co-existing challenges associated with general and mental health, family and community violence, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), child protection issues, offending, cultural needs and many others.

The Social Worker assists individuals and their families to access through evidence based Social Work methodologies that include, but are not limited to, screening and assessments, case management, advocacy, outreach, supportive counselling and group work, facilitating access to community services such as employment and other social opportunities.

The position is located in the Congress Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Service with access a network of peer support including clinical supervision. The SEWB team embeds three streams of care, medical, therapeutic and cultural and social support with intensive case management as required. People accessing the SEWB services have access to a dedicated GP that can provide mental health care plans and integrated care through our therapeutic and social and cultural support model.

The ideal candidate will be a person with:

  • A Social Work degree recognised or accredited by the AASW Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social and emotional wellbeing needs and issues of Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated ability in delivering social work intervention with individuals and/or groups.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing client care plans and providing high-level case management.
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders, both orally and in writing and be willing to discuss and demonstrate own knowledge and skills with work colleagues.
  • Upholds confidentiality and cultural sensitivity in health and Aboriginal community settings.
  • Current Driver’s Licence or the ability to obtain one.
  • A person of Aboriginal descent, who identifies and is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community.
  • 3 years of social work experience (excluding placement) in a recognised field of social work.
  • Ability to speak and understand one or more local Aboriginal languages.
  • Knowledge of Alice Springs and the Central Australian region.
