The Conservation Council ACT Region is seeking an enthusiastic campaigner with experience in strategy development and implementation, stakeholder engagement and communications. The successful applicant will develop and lead campaigns to achieve positive environmental outcomes for the ACT - across issues related to biodiversity, nature and waterways, climate, transport and waste. We are looking for someone with strong campaigning experience, but are also willing to train a candidate who brings enthusiasm, energy and passion to the role.   • Hours: 22.5 - 30 per week (3 - 4 days/ week)
  • Salary: SCHADS Award Level 4 Pay point 1 ($43.08/hour) + Super.
  • Term: 1 year from commencement (three month probation) with likelihood of extension

The Conservation Council ACT Region is the peak environment organisation for the Canberra region. We represent community environment organisations as well as the broader environmental interests of all citizens of the ACT. The Conservation Council’s mission is to achieve a healthy environment and a sustainable future for our region.

We campaign for a safe climate, to protect biodiversity in our urban and natural areas, to protect and enhance our waterways, reduce waste, and promote sustainable transport and planning for our city. We work in the ACT and region to influence governments and build widespread support within the community and business to deliver environmental outcomes. We put forward evidence-based solutions and innovative ideas for how we can live sustainably.

At a time when we need to reimagine a better future, we understand that the changes we need will only happen with the collective support of our community.

This position is to work in a very small team, focusing on campaigning for environmental protection in the ACT. Given the size of our team we are looking for an energetic and adaptable individual, who can take on a range of campaign-related tasks. The position is based in the ACT.

THE CAMPAIGNER WILL:

  • Identify key areas for campaigns in the ACT and region.
  • Develop and implement campaign strategies and tactics to meet campaign objectives, including campaign events.
  • Prepare high-level written material including briefings, correspondence, media releases, submissions, emails to members and newsletters.
  • Build and maintain proactive relationships with stakeholders and allies including member groups, politicians, political advisors, NGOs, legal experts, and community members. Work with said stakeholders to develop policy to support our campaigns.
  • Develop online content for our website and social media platforms.
  • Identify campaign media opportunities, prepare media releases, and liaise with media.
  • Possibility assist the Executive Director with fundraising activities.
  • Contribute to a productive and inclusive professional culture by valuing and supporting team perspectives and diversity.
  • Other duties as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Experience in implementing campaign tactics; and experience in campaign strategy or a willingness to learn.
  2. High level written and oral communications skills.
  3. Strong relationship building skills including working with people from all walks of life.
  4. Organisational and project management skills.
  5. A love for the ACT Regions unique nature and a strong understanding of nature conservation issues.
  6. Ability to manage competing demands and work to a deadline.
