About the Role:

Consent Labs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal professional to join our team as Head of Legal. This role is ideal for someone passionate about social impact and eager to contribute their expertise to a growing not-for-profit organisation. You will play a critical role in ensuring legal compliance, strengthening governance, and providing strategic legal guidance to support our mission.

As Head of Legal, you will have a direct impact on our legal framework, governance, and overall success.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Governance

• Oversee and provide guidance to the Legal Researcher.
• Strengthen and sustain Consent Labs' internal legal capability.
• Regularly update the CEO on legal matters, progress, and key challenges.
• Review and ensure compliance with AICD and ACNC governance standards, as well as other relevant regulations.

Legal Advisory & Risk Management

• Assess when external legal advice (pro bono or paid) is required and act as the primary point of contact.
• Interpret and apply legal advice in a way that aligns with legislative obligations while remaining practical for Consent Labs.

Contract & Policy Review

• Review contracts, including employment agreements, to ensure legal compliance and organisational alignment.
• Evaluate partnership agreements, grant agreements, and other key documents.
• Ensure legal accuracy in external communications, including social media content related to legal matters.
• Draft and refine organisational policies to maintain legal and operational integrity.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Qualified solicitor registered in Australia.
• Law degree from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 3+ years of relevant legal experience (preferred).
• Strong expertise in contract law, governance, employment law, or not-for-profit sector law is highly desirable.
