About the role

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for assisting to deliver legal services across CPA and supporting corporate governance and reporting to minimise legal risk and meet CPA's regulatory obligations.

This role can be part time or full time, based at our office in Allambie Heights and will report to the General Counsel and Company Secretary.

Responsibilities of the role (not limited to):

• Coordination and management of legal requests for internal and external stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and supporting governance and reporting to the CPA Board and members
• Advise on a broad range of legal issues and risks, that include property, corporate and charity governance, fundraising, marketing, data protection, privacy and intellectual property.
• Oversee requests for client record access and subpoenas
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including external law firms to manage legal risk for CPA.
• Raise awareness with relevant stakeholders of new or proposed key legislation and policy changes to support legal compliance across CPA.

About you:

• 3 years Post-Qualified Experience in-house or from a law firm, along with relevant qualifications
• Strong contracting skills - you will have experience working across a range of legal areas
• Prior experience in privacy law or a willingness to stay up to date on reforms and support best practice implementation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to manage simultaneous projects and work with multiple stakeholders
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment whilst confident to work autonomously and to judge when escalation is required
• Genuine interest to build a career in the 'for-purpose' sector
