Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 + superannuation (based on skills and experience)

Location: Victoria (as this role is linked to a Victorian-based project). We have office space in Melbourne but are open to hearing from candidates from across Victoria who work from home but can join us in the city as needed to connect with colleagues and relevant stakeholders for this project. You will also be expected to join in-person for specific workshops and events throughout the year.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Deputy CEO, this role will lead the development of professional standards towards good industry practice in the housing sector over a three-year period. You will coordinate and support a Committee of community sector, academic and industry experts focused on how to create good outcomes for Victorians in the private rental market.

The Governance and Research Lead will:

  • support the project’s Committee with all secretariat services
  • conduct research into professional codes, standards and certifications and provide clear advice to the Committee about approaches that will lead to good outcomes for people who rent. 
  • engage and consult with Victorian Government, industry, academia and community
  • lead development of quality indicators in partnership with industry and community, and
  • manage the project across the three-year period, including preparing reports for funders and tracking progress against project milestones.

ABOUT YOU

You are a collaborator ideally with knowledge and expertise in industry guidelines or development of codes who wants to see your work make a difference.

You will bring the following to CPRC

  • Strong project management and governance skills with the ability to identify emerging risks, governance challenges and strategic opportunities.
  • Understanding of or experience in developing codes, certifications or other professional standards.
  • Ability to conduct high-quality desktop and interview-based research using diverse sources.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret research and develop clear recommendations.
  • An understanding of research for practical outcomes with experience producing research for clients, partners or inquiries that requires connecting findings to recommendations for improvement or change.  
  • Collaborative nature: you enjoy bringing people together to solve problems. 
  • Confident verbal communicator, able to present research findings in public forums.
  • Strong written skills. You can write clearly for non-expert audiences. Your writing has few to no errors.
  • A proactive and self-directed style. You’ll be comfortable working in a small team and interested in continuing our supportive and collaborative culture. 
  • Interest in CPRC's mission. You want to work at a not-for-profit think tank that develops ideas to make markets fairer for Australians. 

Not essential, but an advantage

  • Knowledge of or experience in researching consumer problems or an interest in learning about this field. 
  • Previous demonstrated experience in developing industry guidelines, codes or standards.
  • Knowledge or understanding of the housing market (Victoria, Australia or overseas).
