About Us

Join a small and dynamic NGO that is fighting for a better deal for people on a low income.

CPSA conducts systemic advocacy for pensioners (age pensioners, disability support pensioners and carers) and older people on a low income. Our role is to advocate for the best possible outcomes for our constituents and ensure that their rights and interests are represented in policy.

We undertake research and run campaigns in several areas including:

  • Transport accessibility
  • Health
  • Housing
  • Consumer rights
  • Digital exclusion
  • Income security and welfare
  • Aged care

In addition, we publish explanatory articles, respond to enquiries from members of the public and the media, engage with other organisations on key issues and attend regular forums.

The Role

This role provides support with a range of activities such as:

  • Research and policy analysis
  • Writing policy submissions and reports
  • Attending forums, stakeholder meetings and other engagements
  • Writing informational articles and responding to enquiries
  • Community engagement
  • Digital communications and design
  • Media relations

There is scope for the successful applicant to develop their skills in these areas and to take on responsibility in areas of particular interest.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in social research, policy, or another relevant field (applicants who are in their final semester of study or are undertaking an honours program will be considered).
  • Strong commitment to fairness and the pursuit of better outcomes for people facing disadvantage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and respond to people’s lived experiences with empathy.
  • Highly developed skills in critical analysis and problem-solving.
  • Ability to produce succinct, compelling, and evidence-based pieces of writing for various purposes (e.g., policy submissions, articles, official correspondence, media releases).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively both within the organisation and externally to produce high-quality work, while managing competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and ability to use, or learn to use, content management and project management systems.

Desirable Criteria

Skills, experience or interest in these areas will be highly regarded.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and research.
  • Experience interpreting legislation and government policy.
  • Confident and articulate oral communication skills with the ability to represent the views of CPSA’s constituency in a range of settings.
  • An understanding of the political structure of the Australian and NSW Parliaments and how they operate.
  • Experience with digital communications (e.g., social media and website content, e-newsletters, email campaigns) and/or graphic design.
  • Experience with web development and/or SEO.

More Details

This role has an annual salary within the range of $71,128 - $76,272 (dependent on experience) plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging, in line with level 3 of the SCHADS Award for social and community services employees.
