CPSU Tasmania are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Membership and Events Officer to join our team. If you are passionate about member engagement, excellent at communication, and enjoy organising events and activities, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
This is a permanent part-time position, 25 hours per week – Monday to Friday.
The role is based in Hobart, Tasmania.

The CPSU is a member-led union whose purpose is to protect public services for all Tasmanians and improve the working lives of those who deliver them. The CPSU is the oldest and most established union for Tasmania’s public sector employees

THE TEAM
You will be working alongside a small team of 13 who are passionate about the change we are making together.
Position Purpose
The CPSU is driving change by growing union membership, developing leadership amongst our members and taking collective action to achieve better pay and working conditions.
The Membership and Events Officer plays a pivotal role in the success and growth of the union by ensuring our members receive the highest level of service, support and engagement throughout their membership journey.
Key activities include:
- Provide exceptional customer service to existing members, answering queries and assisting with any membership-related issues or concerns.
- Manage Reception area, answer and direct incoming calls.
- Manage the membership recruitment process, ensuring a smooth and welcoming onboarding experience for new members.
- Maintain an up-to-date membership database.
- Assist in the planning and execution of member events, webinars and other activities designed to enhance member engagement and community-building.
- Implement strategies to improve membership retention, identifying opportunities for enhancing the overall member experience.
- Provide regular reports on membership statistics, trends and feedback to Leadership, identifying areas for improvement.
selection criteria
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in customer service, membership, or community management is a plus.
- Organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using membership management software and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on enhancing the member experience.
- A proactive, friendly and enthusiastic approach to member engagement.
- Shared values and demonstrated understanding of the long-term priorities of the trade union movement.
- Experience working for a union or experience in community organising.
