The Organisation
The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. Our Mission is to be an active, visible catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services within a feminist framework.
We provide confidential counselling and practical support for victim survivors of sexual violence and their families who have experienced any form of sexual assault, sexual harassment and childhood sexual abuse or ritual.
We arrange immediate crisis appointments and provide a 24-hour crisis callout service through the Forensic & Medical Sexual Assault Care (FAMSAC) and/or Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Team (SACAT) services.
Our Crisis phone support is available from 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week.
Job Summary
The Policy and Education Manager will be responsible for policy development, and implementing and managing educational initiatives that align with our mission and strategic goals. This role will involve policy analysis and development, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, the creation of educational content to support our community and responsibility for communications including website and social media.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for strategically targeting new grant and funding opportunities and ensuring funding applications match the culture and capacity of CRCC structure to deliver.
- Manages the strategic policy direction and systems advocacy line of work with the Chief Executive Officer.
- Manages the community education and awareness programs.
- Manages CRCC communications.
- Keep up to date with current research in the field and ensure that where relevant, current data is cited in any educational activity or organisational resource
- Monitor articles in the media about sexual assault and sexual violence and ensure that the Executive Officer is kept up to date with current issues
- Policy specialist/researcher and responsible for policy development.
- Management of grants, with experience in either government policy or community learning and research functions.
- Represents the Chief Executive Officer at key events and forums when required.
- Develop and deliver innovative community programs aimed at educating the community about sexual assault and violence.
- Provide information, referral, education, training and advocacy.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to share and exchange learning and training.
- Plan, develop and facilitate education and training for a range of stakeholders on topics related to sexual assault and violence.
- Oversee and assist with gaining funding for community projects, develop work plans based on funded community development projects and work within these plans.
- Manage educational and training requests, including but not limited to - planning, developing, facilitating and organising presentations.

- Demonstrated Leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience in policy development and eductation development.
- Demonstrated project management and implementation skills.
- Demonstrated skills in team work and the capacity to contribute to the development of the service.
- Skills in group work and facilitation.
- Demonstrated experience in delivery of training programs.
- An ability to work positively in a team to promote and model collaborative and respectful staff and client relationships.
- Computer literacy and an ability to keep good records and data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Special conditions
This is a woman-only position under s 34 (1) of the Discrimination Act 1991 and is a genuine occupational qualification for the position.
Child protection legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to undertake an employment screening including a Police check. Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act of 2011 legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to hold a current and valid “Working with Vulnerable People' registration as proof of suitable employment screening and background checks.
Qualification & Skills
- Bachelor's in Public Policy, Education, Political Science, Law, or a related field and/or;
- Tertiary training in community development, social work, health, youth work, or community health or community services, sexual health, or similar area of policy and service delivery or equivalent experience in one of these fields is highly desirable. Previous experience in a similar position would be an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in policy analysis, education, advocacy, or a related area.
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in public speaking and content development.
- Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders across different sectors.
- Experience managing programs, budgets, and teams is a plus.
