Catholic Regional College Sydenham was founded in 1982 as a Catholic senior school for students in the West of Melbourne. It is the largest of its kind in Victoria, specialising in VCE, VCAL and VET studies.

The school is a part of the Catholic Regional College Federation of schools encompassing 7-10 Colleges at St Albans, North Keilor and Caroline Springs as well as Years 7-12 at Melton. The founders of the school understood that in building a specialist senior campus, students would benefit from having specialist teachers and the widest range of subjects offered.

Catholic Regional College Sydenham seeks a Student Family Engagement Officer. Experience in a school environment as well as knowledge of the Dinka language is highly recommended to enable the successful applicant to work closely with the wellbeing team of the college to support and enhance student success for future pathways and engagement.

Salary will be based on the VCEMEA 2018. The level and subdivision of the successful candidate will be negotiated based on experience, qualifications and previous industry experience.

The Student Family Engagement Officer’s key role is to promote and enhance the overall academic mission of Catholic Regional College Sydenham, by providing services that strengthen home, school, and community partnerships and addresses barriers to learning and achievement.

The Student and Family Engagement Officer significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment. Such an environment is achieved by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of students and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success along with the implementation of effective intervention strategies.

The Student and Family Engagement Officer has a specific focus on supporting students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD). This involves the development and facilitation of engagement strategies and programs, liaison with staff, parents and external service providers and providing individual support to students and their families with the aim of maximising educational outcomes and increasing student attendance.

Catholic Regional College Sydenham is committed to Child Safety. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children and where appropriate be able to demonstrate experience working with children. Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate their understanding of, or any experience they have in working with children with diverse needs and/or backgrounds.
