About the role

As the State Program and Engagement Coordinator, you’ll lead local advocacy and engagement efforts to ensure children and young people with a care experience are heard and supported. Based in Darwin. You’ll play a key role in amplifying young voices and driving meaningful change.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Build strong relationships with sector stakeholders to enhance CREATE’s presence and impact.
  • Oversee the effective delivery of CREATE programs, ensuring they meet the needs of young people.
  • Manage and support a dedicated team, nurturing a positive and high-performing culture.
  • Work with our Advocacy Team to promote CREATE’s advocacy goals and facilitate youth engagement.
  • Ensure all activities align with the National Child Safe Standards and create a culturally safe environment.
  • Actively recruit and support young people to participate in CREATE’s advocacy and leadership opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records and oversee clubCREATE membership data.

About you

You’re passionate, driven, and ready to make an impact. You thrive in a collaborative environment and bring enthusiasm, creativity, and strong organisational skills to your work. You’re a natural communicator and relationship-builder, with the ability to engage young people, stakeholders, and colleagues with confidence and authenticity. You enjoy planning and delivering engaging programs and events, using your problem-solving skills to adapt and respond to challenges as they arise. Whether you're coordinating activities, facilitating workshops, or building partnerships, you're motivated by making a real difference in the lives of young people.

You have:

  • A university degree or diploma in Social Science, Event Management, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, or a related field, plus at least three years’ experience in an NGO.
  • Strong risk management skills to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and young people.
  • A deep understanding of trauma and its impact on children and young people in care.
  • High-level IT literacy and experience using databases to manage information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage young people effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage and support a team, developing a positive work culture.
  • Experience in planning and delivering programs, workshops, and events for young people.
  • A commitment to cultural safety and working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
