If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Carer Support Worker within the Permanency Support Program (PSP).
In this role, you’ll play a key part in recruiting, supporting, and developing carers, ensuring they are well-equipped to provide a safe, nurturing, and loving environment for children and young people. By working closely with the case management team, you’ll help foster positive relationships and achieve permanency goals for the children in care. Your work will directly contribute to the success of the program, making a real difference in the lives of children and their carers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment & Carer Support: Lead efforts in recruiting and retaining carers, conducting thorough assessments, home visits, and ensuring carers are well-prepared and supported to meet the needs of children.
- Training & Development: Design and deliver pre-authorisation and ongoing training programs to ensure carers are confident and equipped with the tools they need for successful caregiving. This includes adapting training for diverse learning styles and needs, including those for carers with English as a second language.
- Placement Matching & Transition Support: Work with the team to identify suitable carer matches for children, ensuring cultural and individual needs are met. Provide ongoing support through placement transitions to ensure smooth adjustments for children and carers.
- Carer Advocacy & Wellbeing: Advocate for carers, supporting them through challenges, addressing issues related to burnout, vicarious trauma, and helping to foster a positive, resilient community of carers.
- Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, prepare detailed assessment reports, and ensure compliance with all child protection regulations and legislative requirements.
- Collaboration & Community Engagement: Foster relationships with community organizations, participate in outreach activities, and contribute to the development of a comprehensive carer recruitment strategy.
- Cultural Competency: Work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ensuring culturally safe practices are embedded throughout the program.
What You’ll Bring:
Essential:
- A degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field, or a Diploma with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in child protection, foster care, or related fields.
- A strong understanding of the challenges and requirements of carers.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough assessments and reviews, including home visits and compliance checks.
- Experience in training, mentoring, and delivering support groups.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child development, and attachment theory.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- A valid NSW Working with Children Check, National Police History Check, NSW driver’s license, and access to a vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
Desirable:
- Fluency in a relevant community language.
- Post-graduate qualifications or additional training in child protection, trauma-informed care, or family support services.
Why You’ll Love Working with Us:
- Impactful Work: You will directly support the welfare and development of children and young people in care, playing a key role in achieving their permanency goals.
- Supportive Team: You’ll be part of a collaborative, compassionate team that works together to achieve the best outcomes for children, carers, and families.
- Professional Development: We are committed to your growth and offer ongoing training and career development opportunities.
- Flexibility: There may be occasional evening or weekend work for training, recruitment events, and carer support, allowing for a dynamic and varied work schedule.
- Competitive Salary & Benefits: We offer competitive remuneration, flexible work options, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on your community.
