Job Opportunity: Counsellor – Out of Home Care (6-Month Contract, Maternity Leave Cover)

Are you looking for an exciting short-term opportunity where you can make a real difference? We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Counsellor to join our team on an initial 6-month maternity leave cover. This is an excellent opportunity to bring your expertise to a passionate team, helping to support and make a positive difference for children, young people, and their families in out-of-home care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored counselling services to children, young people, and their carers.
  • Apply evidence-based therapies such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy.
  • Conduct assessments, support Positive Behaviour Support Plans, and engage in therapeutic group work.
  • Collaborate with case workers, carers, and the wider OOHC team to implement effective psychological strategies.
  • Deliver workshops and training, and provide secondary consultation services to staff.
  • Maintain detailed client records, ensuring compliance with legal and contractual guidelines.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling, or a related field.
  • Experience in working with families with complex needs and a sound understanding of child protection and development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • NSW Working with Children Check, National Police History Check, and current driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work independently while managing competing demands.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Membership with a peak body (e.g. PACFA, ACA, AASW).
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • First Aid certificate and clinical experience with children/adolescents.
