Miyalk Domestic & Family Violence Shelter provides immediate crisis to short-term accommodation for women and their children at risk of and/or experiencing Domestic and Family Violence.

The service operations and delivery are across 24/7, 365 days a year, inclusive of public holidays. Service supports include, but are not limited to, assisting women and their children in a culturally safe and sensitive approach to access safe supported accommodation, along with assistance to establish strength-based goals for a life free from violence. Some of our programs include Outreach, Wellbeing, Case Management, Family and Children’s Program, Emergency Relief and others.

Position Description

Deliver outreach, client advocacy, and support to reach victim-survivors and their families not accessing, and upon leaving, the MDFVS, to intervene early, support safety and provide case management services. Work with victim survivors to assess risk, and develop, implement and monitor support plans and safety plans. Make referrals to relevant services, following up on the outcome of referrals made. This support will be provided in Nhulunbuy and across East Arnhem Remote communities. The primary focus of the role will be on Critical Intervention and Community Education for clients and their children who have been assessed to be at high risk of and/or experiencing domestic and family violence and referred to our service.

You will need to demonstrate your experience in casework, domestic & family violence, a commitment to working collaboratively with other agencies and the community, and experience in development of community education programs. As a Critical Intervention Outreach Service Worker, you will be required to provide culturally sensitive and safe case management support from a client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach.

The role has a travel component to the outer-lying East Arnhem Land communities and homelands. You will need to have the capacity and willingness to travel to meet the role requirements. There may be on-call requirements associated with this role.

ROLE CRITERIA

  • Minimum Certificate III in Community Services and/or at least 2 years of experience in working within a DFV framework.
  • Driver's License
  • Working with Children’s Card - SAFENT
  • National Police Clearance Check – SAFENT
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of domestic and family violence. Knowledge of the impact of family violence on adult victim survivors, children, young people, and communities.
  • Experience working within a strength-based case management model.
  • Experience managing client caseloads and structuring priority tasks to meet client needs, along with maintaining a professional approach.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise shift tasks with client support needs.
  • Experience in working with clients with complex needs within a residential accommodation setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a flexible, trauma-informed and client-centred approach to service delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal, active listening, and negotiation skills with experience in effectively managing difficult situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including:
  • Maintaining client case files and reporting
  • Advocating on behalf of others to a range of agencies / support services
  • Communicating effectively and sensitively with those from diverse cultural backgrounds and linguistic needs
  • Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to learn new data systems and organisational systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of risk management within a DFV framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, plan, prioritise workload and show initiative.
  • The ability to manage service obligations including confidentiality, duty of care, mandatory reports, WHS, other relevant legislation, and professional conduct standards.
  • Ability to speak a second language other than English (desirable).
  • Experience working with people from Indigenous and CALD backgrounds.
