This position has been established as part of the ACT Disability Justice Strategy to foster a shared approach to providing access to justice to people with disability. You will take a leading role in supporting CYF to improve experiences and access to services for children, young people and parents with a disability involved with Children, Youth and Families.

The position will be required to work closely with CYF practitioners and relevant agencies to promote service delivery that is disability informed, and rights based. This will be achieved by improving support pathways, collaboration, sharing of information, and individual advocacy. In collaboration with the cross-system community of practice you will also identify and address systemic barriers that impact access to justice for people with disability.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science, Education or an allied health position (speech therapist, occupational therapist) are desirable but not essential.
  • At least 2 (two) years of practical experience working with children, young people and their carers and families within a disability service is highly desirable. Lived experience of disability is highly desirable including being a person with disability, a supporter of people with disability or having significant experience in understanding issues experienced by people with disability.
  • This position requires a Working with Vulnerable People Check. Prior to commencing in this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 will be required.   • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Driver’s license (C class) is essential.
  • As the successful candidate will work with or are likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, and capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable for this position)
