The Community Services Directorate (CSD), Housing Assistance division is looking for knowledgeable, skilled, motivated and experienced individuals with a tenancy support background to join the Client Services Branch, Tenant Experience team who support the management of public housing tenancies.

As a Housing Practitioner, you will play a critical role in providing specialist advice, information, support coordination and tenancy management services for public housing tenants who may be experiencing complex issues that impact their ability to sustain their tenancy. In this role you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team, engage directly with clients to understand the supports and services they may need to connect to sustain their tenancy or meet their personal wellbeing needs.

Eligibility / Other Requirements

We are looking for applicants who:

  • Have proactive, trauma-informed and solution-driven frontline tenancy support experience
  • Know how to develop and maintain professional relationships with community partners
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication and engagement skills
  • Can work alongside a diverse range of people and multi-disciplinary teams to support positive tenant outcomes
  • Are adaptable, collaborative, and agile in dynamic work environment
  • Want to share their expertise to provide guidance to staff working alongside our tenants

Successful applicants must have:

  • A current driver’s license (C class).
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra (act.gov.au)
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment
  • National Police Check.

As the successful candidate may work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, and capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable for this position.

Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A merit pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
