This role calls for specialist skills in the application of the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT™). As an NMT™ Practitioner, you will work collaboratively with infants, children, young people, and their families who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect. Your role will involve assessing their needs, designing recommendations, and supporting the implementation of developmentally sensitive approaches to promote healing and resilience.
Duties of the role include:
- Undertake comprehensive assessments using NMT™ tools to understand the neurodevelopmental impact of trauma on children and young people and use NMT™ “brain maps” to identify areas of developmental need and strengths.
- Design trauma-informed recommendations based on NMT™ principles and support care teams to implement appropriate approaches to promote healing and resilience.
- Liaise and collaborate with clients, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to gather relevant information, enhance protective factors, and support CYF practitioners, children, young people and their families in the understanding of the assessments and recommendations.
- Collaborate with child protection practitioners to assist with trauma-informed case planning and provide recommendation of trauma-informed strategies that align with the client’s unique needs and strengths.
- Foster productive and collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including working collaboratively within the care team and liaising with CYF practitioners to ensure the child’s therapeutic needs and best interests are represented.
- Remain informed about neurodevelopmental research and trauma-informed approaches; participate in NMT™ training if required, maintain relevant certification requirements, and maintain ongoing access to NMT™ clinical practice tools and resources.

Eligibility / Other Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline is essential. Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply.
- Certification in NMT™ Phase 1 (or willingness to pursue certification) is essential for permanent position holders.
- Minimum of three (preferably five) years of experience working with children, youth and/or families in asocial work/case management role, and/or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.)
- Current (c class) driver’s license is essential.
- Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- This position does require a Working with Vulnerable People Check. Prior to commencing in this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 will be required. Notes
This is a temporary position for up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
