Youth Justice and Adolescent Services (YJAS) is a Branch in CSD with a newly expanded remit. Previously only responsible for custodial youth justice services, the YJAS is undertaking significant policy and service design reform work, including to operationalise the ‘Raising the Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility’ reform and build new service relationships– both within the ACT Government and the community sector.

The Therapeutic Casework Support team (Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility (MACR)) within YJAS is a service response for children aged between 8 and 12 years old. Functions of this team include assessment, case management and referrals to support services for children referred to the Therapeutic panel. Case management support for children subject to Therapeutic Treatment Orders will also be undertaken by this specialist team.

The Therapeutic Casework Support Practitioner role is focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for children and young people by delivering best practices in therapeutic casework support for children and young people who engage in harmful behaviours, as well as their families and communities, including appropriate support for First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse people.

Eligibility/Other requirements: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline is essential. Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply.
  • For Youth Justice positions, relevant qualification in Criminology or Law may be considered as compliant.
  • CYPP 3 must have at least two years of practical experience working with children, young people and/or their families in a social work/case management role.
  • Experience and/or a desire to work in a community services environment is essential.
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) - Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au).  
  • Driver’s License (C class) is essential.
  • The successful candidate will work in accordance with and uphold the ACT Public Service Values and Signature Behaviours, ACT Government’s Respect, Equity and Diversity Framework and the Directorate’s Work Health and Safety System.

Notes: A merit pool may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. This process will be run in parallel with ASO6/P59034.
