Exciting opportunity to join UNSW Faculty of Law & Justice! Based in Kensington NSW, Law & Justice at UNSW emphasises the social relevance and impact of rigorous research and teaching. The Faculty Careers Advisor is responsible for assisting the Faculty Careers Manager in delivering best practise career services for Law Undergraduate (UG), and Postgraduate (PG) students, as well as Criminal Justice students. This entails connecting students with industry partners, alumni, academics and community organisations in order to provide opportunities that enhance their understanding of, and readiness for the job market.

The Career Advisor will provide one-on-one career consultations to students, as well as perform administrative tasks such as responding to student enquiries and assisting with the delivery of workshops and employer presentations to students. Other ad hoc projects may include developing resources, conducting industry and market research, relationship management and communications support.

The role of Faculty Careers Advisor reports to the Faculty Careers Manager, Kristy Ryan.

Day to Day

You will be responsible for –

  • Conducting group and one-on-one sessions with students to develop their CV’s, online profiles, networking and interview skills, and career skills. Materials will be provided.
  • Administrative tasks such as managing the Careers inbox, responding to students and external partner enquiries, and providing relevant information as required.
  • Supporting the design and delivery of skills-based workshops and presentations that develop student market readiness for employment. (For example. Clerkship application preparation and interview skills.)
  • Identifying new and emerging career opportunities for UNSW Law and Criminal Justice students, and helping ideate relevant career education initiatives.
  • Liaising closely with Law & Justice faculty staff to encourage involvement in major workshops and presentations.

Who you are

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline (Law, criminal justice or related would be advantageous) with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Experience, (preferred) and an interest in mentoring and developing students in their career decisions.
  • Excellent administrative & organisational skills with proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet required deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify project needs across the career services portfolio and develop proposals for success.
  • Demonstrated success in the coordination, preparation and delivery of workshops and presentations, preferably in the legal and criminal justice professions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a wide range of audiences.
