About the School of Molecular and Life Sciences:

The School of Molecular and Life Sciences, comprising the Disciplines of Agriculture & Food, Chemistry, and Ecology, delivers outstanding educational programs in these and related topics such as Agribusiness, Environmental Science, Coastal and Marine Science, and Biochemistry.

Developing the knowledge and practical, real-world skills of curious minds to make tomorrow better, the School of Molecular and Life Sciences at Curtin University delivers educational programs across regional locations in Western Australia, as well as at the Muresk Institute (Northam) and the Curtin Malaysia campus. The extensive range of educational offerings include pre-Bachelor, Bachelor and Masters’ courses, along with a suite of postgraduate research degree courses. The School strives to deliver independent expert advice to industry, government, and society, and to conduct research and development with particular relevance to the communities of Western Australia and its regional communities.

Your new role

We are seeking a Community Collaboration Officer (Research Assistant) who is passionate in supporting our Lead for Community Collaboration. In this role, you will assist with building relationships with Aboriginal, and other regional, communities; project planning, implementation and evaluation; gathering and analysing social research data; and communicating findings to our partner Communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with participants and the research team to arrange field and laboratory activities.
  • Perform experiments, collect and analyse data, contributing to delivery of research tasks.
  • Assist with drafting reports and publications for scientific journals, and material for communicating research and its findings with, and to, project partners.
  • Prepare materials for conferences, workshops, and training events.
  • Assist with the operation, maintenance, and inventory of research equipment.
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist with funding applications.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical research and safety protocols and procedures relevant to Curtin University

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated aptitude for strong verbal and written communication, including an ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and partners to produce written and verbal outputs which are clear and concise.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for proactively and efficiently coordinating research activities, prioritising tasks and resolving logistical challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience in Yarning, conducting interviews, leading focus groups and/or participating in workshops.
  • Experienced in collecting, managing and analysing the data produced through social research.
  • Demonstrated competency in the use of word-processing and spreadsheet software packages, including the ability to generate reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Completion, or progress towards completion, of a relevant qualification; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.

Please note that you will require current work rights in Australia. This position is based at our Curtin Bentley campus, candidates are expected to either be currently located in Perth, Western Australia, or express a willingness to relocate. Please note: Relocation and sponsorship support will not be provided for this position.
