About the role

This is a dynamic position with opportunities to engage with community, think strategically and develop engaging tools for inclusive practice. We are looking for someone who is genuinely excited to try something new every day, while working with a top tier team in our Redfern-based office in Sydney on a full-time basis.

The Project Officer position will see you:

  • Working with a highly collaborative, client-focused team committed to best practice when working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Supporting the team in identifying, growing and maintain strong relationships with multicultural sector across Australia.
  • Undertake literature and demographic data reviews and analysis to inform engagement strategies, diversity and inclusion plans and more.
  • Co-design, develop and deliver community/stakeholder engagement. Here’s an opportunity to test out your facilitation skills or learn some new methods for engagement!
  • Work closely with our Communications team in the delivery of community events – this will see you travelling all over Australia – meeting with and exploring rich communities.
  • Successfully project-manage the development and implementation of community and stakeholder engagement activities specific to projects/campaigns so that they are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Provide support and input in responding to Federal/State/local government tenders and consultancy requests.
  • Conducting analysis of consultation outputs and preparing detailed written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Demonstrate strong writing and presentation development skills through Word and PPT presentations.

The Cultural Perspectives Group has been operating since 1994, as sector leaders in research, engagement and communicating with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia. Today, it comprises of two business divisions dedicated to connecting with diverse communities in Australia through delivering continued high-quality research, successful engagement, and effective multicultural campaigns.

About the Engagement team

Engagement is part of Cultural Perspectives’ core business. We pride ourselves in being able to connect clients directly with diverse communities using our strong community links with diverse communities across Australia. Cultural Perspectives carries extensive experience engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, as well as a team of International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) certified engagement professionals.

Our team has planned and implemented high level engagement strategies that achieve effective and long-lasting relationships for government, community, and the corporate sectors. We have maintained a respected reputation throughout diverse communities and a high ethical standard of work for over 30 years.

We have a long history of dealing with sensitive issues within diverse communities and working with clients to improve access and equity for all communities.

Selection criteria

To be successful for the role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in the area of diversity and inclusion (includes engaging with CALD sector, multicultural affairs, diversity practice, social justice)
  • Demonstration for passion for working with CALD communities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences
  • Very strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage several projects and tasks concurrently with tight deadlines
  • Experience coordinating and/or delivering community engagement activities or events
  • Understanding of community demographic data and ability to compile community profiles
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Strong competency in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Availability to travel within Australia occasionally, as required
  • Most importantly – have a can do attitude! :D

Qualification

  • Undergraduate or post-graduate studies in Community Development/Social/Public Policy (or similar).
  • Applicants need to have the right to work in Australia.
  • You may be required to obtain a Working with Children’s check and/or National Police Check.
