About the Role

Greater Dandenong City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sustainability Planner to join the Sustainability Planning team based in Dandenong. Ideally you will have experience delivering strategic climate change policy and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) advice with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with our team on a diverse portfolio of sustainability focused strategies, policies, programs and projects.

Your primary purpose in this position is to:

  • To lead, manage or assist in the development, review and implementation of Environmental and Sustainability policy that leads to sound, innovative and vibrant outcomes in a well-planned city.
  • Provide sustainability planning advice and commentary on development applications under consideration by the Council.
  • Advocate across Council, within the community and with landowners and developers to actively engage in sustainable and environmentally sound practices and to further develop the culture of environmental sustainability within Greater Dandenong.
  • Initiate and pursue strategic, innovative projects, strategies, policies, and practices that enhances the sustainability of the natural and built environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in sustainability planning, strategic environmental management or other related fields. In addition, you should have a strong grasp of environmentally sustainable design (ESD) principles and proficiency in referencing verification methods and tools such as Green Star, NABERS, and BESS. Knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation principles, along with their practical application in the community, is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must, as is the ability to collaborate within a close-knit team and work independently. Experience delivering strategic climate change and sustainability policy and strategies within a government context will be viewed favourably.
