We are seeking a passionate, self-motivated and experienced Program Worker / Kitchen Hand (Cook) to support and deliver a range of innovative programs and meal planning for older people attending Social Support Programs.

The Program Worker / Kitchen Hand (Cook) will work within a small team that recognises the contribution and empowerment that comes from older people, family members and carers shaping and influencing the activities they choose to engage in.

  • Permanent Part -Time, 16 hours p/week (Tuesday - Friday).
  • Salary: $69,987.32 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation.

about the role

Council has an ongoing commitment to providing high quality Social Support Programs for older people living with dementia or are seeking opportunities for social connection. The Program Worker / Cook will support these programs through menu planning and preparing/serving meals to participants attending a range of activities through a range of centre-based, community and online activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meal planning – preparing weekly menu (morning tea, lunch, dessert and snacks) that meet the dietary needs of program participants
  • Managing food supplies – stock control, ordering, receiving and record weekly groceries
  • Direct services – preparing and serving meals to participants attending the Social Support Program
  • Compliance with food safety standards – complying with food safety plans and hygiene standards
  • Budgeting – ordering food supplies with consideration to seasonal menus and ordering within budget limitations
  • Working with people from diverse backgrounds including those with memory loss, disability, cultural diversity and social isolation, and in providing assistance with mobility or personal care to clients when needed

experience

  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (desirable)
  • Food Safety Certificate (Level 1 – Basic Food Handling) or ability to successfully complete this certificate
  • Certificate III or IV in relevant Aged Care or Disability qualifications
  • Manual Handling Certificate with relevance to the aged care sector (desirable)
  • Level 2 First Aid (desirable)
  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence (essential) and willingness to drive clients in a 12-seater minibus
  • Access to a roadworthy registered vehicle for work purposes is desirable and Comprehensive Insurance is strongly recommended
