A temporary Psychologist role to minimum July 2024 (possible extension) is available in the New England district.

  • Flexible location within New England – can be based in Tamworth, Moree, Glen Innes or Inverell
  • Salary range: $74,302 - $126,518 p.a. plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Your role

Are you a passionate psychologist looking for a meaningful opportunity to improve mental health outcomes for children and their families? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

Psychological & Specialist Services is currently seeking psychologists to join New England Team. This role could be based in your choice of Tamworth, Moree, Narrabri, Glen Innes or Inverell.  As clinical leaders in trauma-informed intervention, we are dedicated to ensuring that vulnerable children and families receive the highest quality therapeutic support to promote their well-being and resilience.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a life-changing difference to children and families experiencing adversity. You will use your skills and expertise to provide trauma-informed therapeutic assessments and interventions that utilise evidence-based approaches. You will also work closely with our internal and external stakeholders, including caseworkers, multidisciplinary teams, and other professionals.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide trauma-informed therapeutic assessments and interventions that utilise evidence-based approaches for children, young people and families.
  • Provide specialist consultations to guide casework practice in complex mental health matters.
  • Build capacity within casework staff through training and reflective practice sessions.

Desired skills and experience 

To be successful in this role, you must have a passion for helping others and a strong commitment to improving mental health outcomes of children, young people and families. The successful candidate must possess:

  • Ability to administer, and an understanding of the reliability and validity, of standardised and non-standardised psychological tests, questionnaires and rating scales.
  • Scientist-practitioner approach to assessment, formulation and provision of evidence-based intervention to address the behavioural, emotional, cognitive, and attachment needs of the child and their family.
  • An understanding of the application of psychological theory, assessment and intervention when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from diverse cultural backgrounds, individuals identifying as LGBTQIA+.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work as a member of a specialised team and to provide regular reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, and to prioritise workload.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology recognised by the Psychology Board of Australia, either:
  • Full registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, or
  • Provisional registration with the ability to fulfil full registration within the relevant timeframes.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and therapeutic frameworks that underpin assessment and intervention in the context of child abuse/neglect.
  • Current driver’s license.

  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
